Whitman crime by the numbers

The following statistics are from the Whitman College Annual Security Report, which can be found at http://www.whitman.edu/content/security/annualreport.

Fifteen instances of rape were reported in 2008, eight occurring on campus (in residence halls, on campus or on non-campus property) and seven occurring off campus. This number has more than doubled since 2007, when only six instances of rape were reported.

Five instances of forced fondling were reported in 2008, which is up from two instances reported in 2007.

Four cases of aggravated assault were reported in 2008, up from two cases in 2007.

Three instances of burglary were reported in 2008.

There were zero cases of motor vehicle theft in 2008.

In 2008, there were 36 alcohol referrals, up from 25 referrals in 2007 and zero arrests.

In 2008, there were 11 drug referrals, down from 14 referrals in 2007, and zero arrests.
