Jacobs in serious condition, Radosevic upgraded to fair condition
UPDATE NOV. 8, 4:54 P.M.: Legacy Emanuel Medical Center has just confirmed that Lindsey Jacobs is now in serious condition and that Katie Radosevic is in fair condition. The hopsital had been unable to provide an update on Jacobs’ condition yesterday because they needed Jacobs’ parents to arrive to authorize the release of that information.
The hopsital is still unable to release details of the injuries suffered.
Meanwhile, students today gathered in the Global Awareness Interest House to make cards for the crash victims.
UPDATE NOV. 7, 2:27 P.M.: According to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center, Katie Radosevic is now in serious condition. No information was available about Lindsey Jacobs’ condition.
Donna Cummins, assistant to the dean of students, said that the Whitman administration has also been unable to get any further updates on Jacobs’ condition or the specific injuries suffered.
Dean of Students Chuck Cleveland said that both Radosevic’s and Jacobs’ parents were either at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center or on their way.
Cleveland also said that Allen and Ngyuen are “doing well” but “have a lot of healing to do.”
ORIGINAL POST, NOV. 6: Four Whitman studens on their way to the Power Shift Conference in Eugene, Ore., collided into the side of a semi-truck at around 3:30 p.m. Friday afternoon. The crash occured near Hermiston, Ore.
Katie Radosevic and Lindsey Jacobs were flown to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland, Ore. As of 11:30 p.m. Friday night, both Radosevic and Jacobs were in critical condition.
The other two students, Maggie Allen and Khoa Nguyen, were treated at a hospital in Hermiston and are back on campus. Allen, the driver of the vehicle, suffered a broken shoulder. Nguyen had a concussion.
The Oregonian reports that the driver of the semi-truck, Dirk Martin, was not injured.
Dean of Students Chuck Cleveland and Associate to the President Jed Schwendiman went to Hermiston late Friday to assist the students and to communicate with the parents and officials. President George Bridges informed the Whitman community of the crash in an e-mail Friday night.
The Oregonian is reporting that the vehicle crashed when Allen made a u-turn. According to Allen, the truck was not visible until the collision.

My name is Ray Radosevic. My cousin Katie Radosevic was involved with this accident and flown to the hospital. Is she going to be ok and what is her status?
Ray,
I’ve worked with Josh Goodman over the past couple days to bring updates on the your cousin’s status and the other involved in the accident. What we know now is that Katie Radosevic was updated to fair condition Sunday. She has pelvic fractures and will undergo surgery later today. Doctors expect she will make a full recovery and even be back at school later this semester or next semester. I hope that helps and you have all our deepest sympathies. Katie’s parents are with her at the hospital who you could call if you have further questions.
